Mermaid

A box inspired by the ocean. This has been taken apart and put back together multiple times and was truly a labor of love over the past few months. Fluid solder lines, organic "fragment" shapes, glass imitation opals alongside tiny, real opals, wire work, metal charms, spirals and abalone! The base glass is a stunning, iridescent turquoise that amplifies the shine of the glass on the lid. You can get lost gazing at the details on the sides. The chain for the lid is made with faceted labradorite and then woven with real opals. The strap/waist chain is made with gorgeous, oval-shaped abalone cabochons.

My Libra sun and Pisces moon creatively directed this box. It was difficult for me to balance chaos with order as seen so effortlessly expressed in nature. It took a lot of purposeful editing. While constructing this, I was also going through a sort of baptism, if you will, in an esoteric sense. A return to the ocean, acknowledging that it is just as fierce as it is peaceful. A true representation of balanced energies. When we go into the shadows, it may break us for a while, but we will ultimately move from fragments, to facets, to fractals and everything in between as symbolically shown in the progression of this glass purse series. One final thing for anyone who read all of this, there was a really special person who reminded me of the lyrics to a Talking Heads song when I was noticeably in need of transformation:
